A native of Houston, TX, Dr. Lawson earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA where he graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Chemistry & Pre-Medicine. He was a Lt. Commander for the U.S. Public Health Service, and served as a Clinical Instructor for the following: the Center for Family Medicine in Anderson, SC; the Center for Family Practice at Greenville Hospital System; and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He has chaired the Rheumatology rotation of the Internal Medicine Program at Greenville Hospital System, and is the author of several publications on Rheumatoid Arthritis. A supporter of the arts, Dr. Lawson has an extensive collection of paintings and other works – many of which hang in the offices of Piedmont Arthritis Clinic. He has served on the boards of many charitable organizations in the Greenville community including Roper Mountain Science Center, Community Foundation of Greater Greenville, Goodwill Industries, River Place Festival and the Metropolitan Arts Council. He served on the De-consolidation Study Committee of The School District of Greenville County and the Save Sirrine Stadium Committee, and as president of the Greenville High School All Sports Booster Club. He also is actively involved with the Shriners Hospital for Children.
