Jocelyn Thompson, PA-C

About PA Thompson

Jocelyn Thompson is a physician assistant who brings both clinical training and lived understanding to rheumatology care. Diagnosed with lupus at a young age, she understands firsthand how complex and personal rheumatic conditions can be. Her approach centers on listening closely, validating concerns, and helping patients feel supported throughout their care journey.

CLINICAL INTERESTS AND PHILOSOPHY

Jocelyn was drawn to rheumatology through her own experience as a patient and her growing exposure to the specialty during training. She believes empathy and education are essential parts of care. Even when answers are not immediate, she focuses on reassurance, clear communication, and a commitment to doing what’s best for each patient in the moment.

BACKGROUND AND TRAINING

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina, graduating cum laude, and completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the Medical University of South Carolina. Jocelyn gained early rheumatology experience as a medical scribe at Internal Medicine Associates and later through elective clinical rotations in pediatric rheumatology at MUSC in 2021 and adult rheumatology at Piedmont Arthritis Clinic in 2022. These experiences solidified her interest in the specialty and her dedication to patient-centered care.

IN THE CLINIC AND BEYOND

Patients often share that they appreciate the time Jocelyn takes to listen and the care she brings to each visit. She strives to make sure patients feel heard and reassured, even on difficult days. Jocelyn stays current in her field through continuing medical education, medical literature, and ongoing collaboration with colleagues and mentors.
